Construction of a new laundry facility for Badisa Tafelronde Herberg Old Age Home in the Overberg, is underway and is expected to be completed by April this year, long before the rainy season sets in. This is an essential infrastructure project to help make taking care of the eighteen senior residents in this community Old Age Home easier.

“The building of this laundry facility will help us immensely. Currently, the washing machine is set up in the ladies bathroom and the ironing has to be done in the night nurse’s bedroom. By having a dedicated laundry facility, it will also help to free up these ablution areas in the home and make them more accessible to the elderly residents,” explained Mervin Wyngaardt, Project Co-Ordinator at Badisa Tafelronde Herberg Old Age Home.

At the moment a single load of laundry can take two days to wash, dry and iron, so it is with much relief that the new building as well as the supply of industrial scale washing and drying machines, all of which are is funded by Klipheuwel Wind Farm, will allow for a much quicker turnover of our residents bedding and clothing.

“Ensuring that bed linen remains hygienic is essential in an old age home, which is why we reached out to our local wind farm for financial assistance,” added Mr. Wyngaardt.

This initiative is part of the wind farm’s socio-economic development programme. “The elderly are often the most vulnerable members of communities, which is why their care and wellbeing is an important part of our community support programmes,” said Anna Letsoalo, Senior Economic Development Officer for Klipheuwel Wind Farm.
