Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has been provided to keep community based Tracer Teams safe. These frontline workers, who are most at risk, will be doing screening, testing, tracing and clinical management, in the four Local Municipal areas of Sol Plaatje, Dikgatlong, Magareng and Phokwane.

Funded by Droogfontein Solar Power, the PPE was received by the Northern Cape Department of Health, on Wednesday 3 June, and is ready to be deployed to Tracer Teams, who serve a population of over 400 000 citizens.

“This donation could not have come at a better time. Many communities throughout the world are subjected to the effects of Covid-19 and an unimaginable spike in the prices of PPE. All this is taking place at a time when countries are facing severe economic challenges. It will help to provide a safe working environment and further boost the morale and of our health care workers who are our first line of defence against this deadly pandemic,” said Mthuthuzeli Joka, Frances Baard Health District Director, in response to Droogfontein Solar Power’s funding of the PPE for use in the surrounding communities.

This equipment includes 2000 N95 masks; 2000 surgical masks; 2000 disposable caps; 6000 surgical gloves; 1000 re-usable goggles; 1 000 units of 500ml sanitizers.

“Although the Northern Cape currently has very low levels of infections, the majority of these are to be found in the Frances Baard District, which is why we believe that the health sector needs our support,” explained Zuki Ndlela, Economic Development Officer at Droogfontein Solar Power.
