Van Rensburg Primary School, in Britstown, has added a dedicated remedial class, for foundation phase learners from the community who need assistance and support to overcome learning challenges.
Dorian Olifant, Chief Education Specialist: Curriculum at the Northern Cape Department of Education commented, “One of our biggest challenges as the Department of Education, is the inclusion of learners with barriers in our main stream. In the district of Pixley Ka Seme there are no schools that can exclusively accommodate learners with severe to profound barriers to learning, hence we greatly appreciate the work done by De Aar Solar Power to set up and equip a remedial classroom at Van Rensburg Primary and meet this very important need in the community.”
The dedicated class is benefiting 30 learners across Grades 1 to 3, at this small school, and is headed by a teacher who is already employed at the school.
“We believe that this additional learning support, which provides a dedicated learning environment to offer additional assistance will be hugely beneficial,” said Zuki Ndlela, Economic Development Specialist at De Aar Solar Power.
De Aar Solar Power has provided funding for the additional classroom furniture, learning materials and other educational equipment suitable for this remedial class, as part of its over-arching socio-economic development programme.
