April 2019

Entries are open for the 2019 JBay Wind Farm MTB Classic. Now in its seventh year there are some exciting changes afoot for the 2019 instalment of the ever-popular event. This year will see a new venue as well as a few other exciting additions.

The event – which this year takes place on 29 June – will run on out-and-back routes from spectacular Twin Valley Nature Estate. This residential eco estate with its beautiful vistas over the Indian Ocean lends itself perfectly to an event of this nature. “This largely cuts out the need for use of any public roads,” explains organiser and route designer Arthur Joubert. “There is also room for expansion – we’ve a few ideas for more great family activities on the day,” he said.

The details of those ‘additional ideas’ Joubert alluded too, as well as specific details of the various routes will be released soon. Word from Joubert, however, is that they won’t change much from 2018 and once again feature something for all fitness and skill levels. Both the 50km marathon and the 85km will have big sections of single track while the 25km fun ride is ideal for those just getting into mountain biking.

The Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm is once again proud to be associated with the event in the form of a title sponsorship.

“The Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm supports carbon-free, clean sports, which makes mountain-biking the perfect for the wind farm’s ethos,” commented Dhesen Moodley, Managing Director of the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.

Moodley is proud to have his company associated with the only one-day race in Africa to traverse a wind farm and in an effort to make it even more accessible to the neighbouring communities there is also the addition of a fun trail run and walk for 2019.

“Many members of our communities aren’t cyclists or don’t have access to bikes,” explained Moodley, explained. “So we have added in a (10km) trail run and 5km walk, to encourage more to join in the event,” he said.
