Kenhardt High School has re-opened to both Grade 7 and Grade 12. To help ensure the safety of the school’s learners and its staff, over 600 masks have been donated by Aries Solar Power, which is an allocation of three masks for each learner. This is in addition to an extensive supply of sanitisers and hygiene products.
Kenhardt High School Principal, Mr. Deon Keffers, expressed relief for the assistance as many learners, staff and parents, were apprehensive about the return to school. “Some parents were afraid of sending their children to school but now I can show them that we can help keep their children and educators safe.”
The solar farm is also working with the District Department of Health to co-ordinate the delivery of personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical supplies to the Kenhardt Health Centre, all of which forms part of their Socio-Economic Development Programme that has been redirected to focus on COVID-19 relief and community support. This included 1000 disposable medical gowns; 1000 medical gloves; 500 medical goggles; 1950 much needed N95 medical masks; and 3000 units of waterless hand sanitisers.
“Keeping clinic staff in Kenhardt protected is essential, if healthcare personnel are to stay safe, especially as the COVID cases pick up in rural Northern Cape towns,” says Tsholofelo Moote, Economic Development Practitioner for Aries Solar Power.
