Carlton started his career in construction in 2009 with FS Systems (formerly Fire Spec Systems), based at the new Cape Town International Airport – a project initiated to prepare infrastructure for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He moved to their Maintenance division after commissioning.

After more than two years, he moved to Eskom Distribution transitioning from control systems to operating power systems. There he had the opportunity of working on low, medium and high voltage systems, focusing on Operations & Maintenance. He left the utility in 2019.

Carlton spent just under two years with ENERTRAG South Africa, where he supported the project and business development teams with operations and maintenance input. He was responsible for the shareholders 5,2 MW Wind Energy Facility – historically, South Africa’s first – the Darling National Demonstration Wind Farm.

At Globeleq, he manages the Remote Operations Centre which monitor and control all of its renewable power plants and additionally he has direct management of the Klipheuwel Wind Farm.

Carlton is a member of the Engineering Council of South Africa as well as the Institute for Certified Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, South Africa.
